The Car­ni­val Stud­ies Unit, De­part­ment of Cre­ative and Fes­ti­val Arts, Fac­ul­ty of Hu­man­i­ties and Ed­u­ca­tion, The Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI), will be host­ing its sev­enth an­nu­al Kaiso Di­a­logues Awards, on Oc­to­ber 19, at the Staff So­cial Club, UWI, St Au­gus­tine, at 7 pm.

The over­all pur­pose of the event is to laud the work of out­stand­ing artistes in the gen­res of Ca­lyp­so, Chut­ney, So­ca, Ex­tem­po and Rap­so. Awardees for 2010 are Shad­ow, Pel­ham God­dard, Ron­nie Mc In­tosh and Bri­go.

Mod­er­a­tors will speak with the artistes in an in­ter­ac­tive set­ting, where­by the pub­lic will learn about the artistes' lives and ex­pe­ri­ences out­side of their stage per­for­mances.

At the end of the dis­cus­sion, artistes will be award­ed for their out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to their re­spec­tive gen­res by the De­part­ment of Cre­ative and Fes­ti­val Arts, UWI.

Pre­vi­ous Kaiso Di­a­logues awardees in­clude David Rud­der, Rik­ki Jai, Bomber, Machel Mon­tano, Kare­ga Man­dela, Su­perBlue and many oth­ers.
