The Carnival Studies Unit, Department of Creative and Festival Arts, Faculty of Humanities and Education, The University of the West Indies (UWI), will be hosting its seventh annual Kaiso Dialogues Awards, on October 19, at the Staff Social Club, UWI, St Augustine, at 7 pm.
The overall purpose of the event is to laud the work of outstanding artistes in the genres of Calypso, Chutney, Soca, Extempo and Rapso. Awardees for 2010 are Shadow, Pelham Goddard, Ronnie Mc Intosh and Brigo.
Moderators will speak with the artistes in an interactive setting, whereby the public will learn about the artistes' lives and experiences outside of their stage performances.
At the end of the discussion, artistes will be awarded for their outstanding contribution to their respective genres by the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI.
Previous Kaiso Dialogues awardees include David Rudder, Rikki Jai, Bomber, Machel Montano, Karega Mandela, SuperBlue and many others.
