I wish to pub­licly con­grat­u­late the Hous­ing De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (HDC) for its bulk garbage re­moval pro­gramme which oc­curred from De­cem­ber 1, 2015 to Jan­u­ary 10, 2016.

This pro­gramme was in­sti­tut­ed in over sev­en ar­eas through­out Trinidad and was a huge suc­cess as the con­trac­tors were time­ly and cit­i­zens were able to dis­pose of their bulk garbage with­in their en­vi­rons as they were aware that their items would be col­lect­ed on spec­i­fied days. This clean up helped in get­ting rid of rub­bish and waste which could eas­i­ly house mos­qui­toes, bugs and a myr­i­ad of in­sects there­by caus­ing se­ri­ous health haz­ards for peo­ple with­in the com­mu­ni­ty.

It al­so pre­vent­ed wan­ton dis­pos­al of refuse in wa­ter­ways and aban­doned lots.

With the pub­li­ca­tion of the sched­uled days for pick-up, I no­ticed many peo­ple ea­ger­ly putting out their items for col­lec­tion which made the area much clear­er and clean­er.

I there­fore en­cour­age the HDC to con­tin­ue with this ini­tia­tive through­out dif­fer­ent times of the year.

Maybe the re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tions can fol­low suit as well and have a pro­gramme of reg­u­lar well-ad­ver­tised col­lec­tion at least once a month in all ar­eas.
