The Digicel Foundation and the Association of Female Executives of T&T (AFETT) joined forces to launch the professional development seminar, Six Steps for Success, at the Digicel Hospitality Suite.
Six Steps to Success was designed to equip young professionals with the requisite skills that would allow them to confidently navigate their way in a professional environment. Twenty-five young women, aged 18-25, participated in the first step which focused on Business Etiquette and was facilitated by Maxine Barnett, who covered areas of Social Media and Telephone and Email Etiquette. Barnett also explored etiquette that should be observed in public areas of the organisation such as, lunch rooms, restrooms and the lobby or reception area.
Barnett reiterated that "courtesy" is fundamental in etiquette, as well as observing the golden rule "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
The other four steps include Money Management, Resume Magic, Life is not a Stress Rehearsal and Employee Rights and the Path of Negotiation. The programme will culminate with the sixth step–an internship opportunity for eligible participants.
At the event, project officer of the Digicel Foundation, Cindyann Currency presented AFETT president, Cavelle Joseph with a commemorative plaque to signify the partnership. Joseph's encouraging words to the participants were: "When opportunity comes knocking...open the door and Six Steps to Success is definitely an opportunity worth having."
Five Digicel team members were included in the training. They will share what they have learned with their peers and sit on organising committees where they will have the opportunity to give back.
