Iron dealer killed in shooting

A shoot­ing in­ci­dent in Cara­pichaima last Sun­day night has left 39-year old scrap iron deal­er, Ja­so­dra Gan­garan, dead.

Gan­garam re­ceived one gun­shot to the low­er back af­ter gun­men opened fire on her and two men, Ri­car­do McAl­is­ter, and an­oth­er iden­ti­fied as Sweet­boy Bal­roop, at her home on Roops­ingh Road.

Gan­garam and the men were tak­en to the Cou­va Dis­trict Health Fa­cil­i­ty and then to the San Fer­nan­do Hos­pi­tal where she suc­cumbed to her in­juries. A post mortem is sched­uled for to­day at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre.

Mc Al­is­ter, 26, a labour­er, al­so of Roops­ingh Road, was shot three times as he at­tempt­ed to run from the gun­men.

He was shot in his but­tocks, hip and shoul­der. Bal­roop, 49, an­oth­er scrap iron deal­er, was shot once in the low­er ab­domen. Both men, still hos­pi­talised, were re­port­ed to be in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to the a re­port from the Freeport Po­lice, Gan­garam, Mc Al­is­ter and Bal­roop, were sit­ting in her home on Sun­day night when a black sta­tion wag­on pulled up at the front of the house.

Two men jumped out of the ve­hi­cle and point­ed guns in the di­rec­tion of the three peo­ple.

Sev­er­al loud ex­plo­sions were heard. Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
