I really like those Web sites like TripAdvisor.com and Booking.com where one can read people's reviews on the place they have visited and the ratings given between one and five stars, with five being the highest. We should have a similar rating for our local law schools which offer the University of London law degree. As someone who went through the process–I attended a local law school in Chaguanas ten years ago to read for the University of London law degree–I found the law school I attended to be excellent, a real five-star rating. My study buddies and I worked very hard and we are all qualified attorneys today.
A friend is now pursuing her first year of the law degree but has had a very different experience. A Port-of-Spain law school where she was registered disappointed her badly, and from the word on the street, she is certainly one of many.Tutors did not turn up to teach or were unavailable; classes were often cancelled or changed at either short or no notice at all; the syllabus was never completed; and treatment of students by management was extremely poor.
Money was spent and time wasted and all she ended up with was a sour taste. Generally the whole experience was negative. So she decided to investigate other options and naturally I steered her to check out what was available in Chaguanas. Although she was unable to access the same law school I attended as that course was not available, she found an alternative law school also in the centre of Chaguanas and from day on has been extremely happy. The difference in treatment, attitude, quality service and professionalism in Chaguanas as compared to Port-of-Spain is like chalk and cheese. So, students, be warned! Do your research and listen to the word on the streets. Check out before signing up. Not all law schools are the same!
