The funeral service for Seadley Joseph, better known in the calypso world as Penguin, takes place today.He died, aged 70, on Sunday at his Trincity home after ailing for some time. His funeral takes place at 2 pm St Charles RC Church, Eastern Main Road, Tunapuna and he will be cremated at Belgrove's at 5 pm.
A release from the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians' Organisation (TUCO) hailed him as "A King with a Common Touch." He was described as "a brilliant composer and as a leader who encouraged the spirit of democracy."Joseph's compositions such as Look the Devil Dey, Deputy Essential and Soft Man, the release said, made the world richer.
The release recalled Joseph's eight years as TUCO's president. "The Seadley Joseph who came to the fore and gave his all for TUCO," it said, "was the same man–quiet, unassuming and possessed with a desire to point a new direction."
