I am writing in my capacity as a defender of the rights of wild animals, preservation of the ecology and supporter of things environmental. Beginning with the capture and preservation of the mammoth anaconda by those conscientious security personnel who deserve some kind of green leaf award, the capture of poachers on Salybia beach, and now the arrest of a pet shop owner for the attempted sale of protected monkeys and turtles, I am moved to congratulate hearitily the forest rangers who work so hard to ensure that animals get justice.
These officers are building an enviable track record as they set up sting operations to capture these wicked people. I believe that they also brought someone before the court for having as many manicou and lappe carcasses as, say, a tonne of compressed marijuana. This is impressive. It is time that we take matters such as these seriously. We can't continue to hunt our species into extinction, converting our vaulable wildlife into curry, stew, soup or sandwich meat to be sickeningly devoured at fetes.
All must understand that we need to save the manatee population, we need not eat manicou, lappe and deer. Leave the wild pigs alone; you can grow corn instead and eat bil fig and dasheen. I was so happy the other day when I saw our very own George Bovell saving a deer he caught in the Paria Falls and let it back into the wild. I cut the picture out and kept it; for this simple act, Bovell is a champion above par. The life of that sweet creature will bring him more blessings than any gold medal.
Oh, how happy it must have made Papa Bois to see one of his children return home safely. Carry on, rangers. Please help these poor creatures.
