A 14-year-old girl and her one-year-old son, who were reported missing earlier this week, have been found safe in Tobago.
Officers from the Child Protection Unit and the Tobago Division located Linel Noel and son Kayleb at a house along Darryl Spring Road, Scarborough, at 11.30 pm on Saturday.
A 31-year-old man who was with them in the house was also detained.
The children had been reported missing to the Couva Police Station on September 11.
According to reports, both minors were safe and the Children’s Authority was contacted to provide further assistance.
Noel and her baby had gone missing from their Fanny Village Point Fortin home on September 9.
Relatives reported that Linel, who is the baby’s mother, left home after an argument with a family member. Her great-grandmother, Josephine Noel, last saw them before going on an errand. When she returned, Linel and Kayleb were gone, along with some of their belongings.
Family members were worried following her disappearance, especially given the girl’s age.
One relative had told Guardian Media relatives were frustrated that despite reporting her pregnancy to the police, no action had been taken.
The Special Victims Department continues its investigation into the matter.
