Week­end drown­ings at dam and riv­er

A week­end riv­er lime at Cau­ra end­ed in tragedy for a group of friends when a 21-year-old man drowned yes­ter­day.Re­ports stat­ed that around 1.45 pm, Adri­an James, of Morne Co­co Road, Pe­tit Val­ley, was lim­ing with friends at Pool One in Cau­ra.James' friends told po­lice that he and his girl­friend were at­tempt­ing to swim acrosss the riv­er to fetch their be­long­ings, when James got in­to dif­fi­cul­ties.

James, who was de­scribed as a weak swim­mer, was pulled un­der­wa­ter and dis­ap­peared for a cou­ple of min­utes.His girl­friend alert­ed oth­er limers who rushed to their as­sis­tance. A un­con­scious James was res­cued from the riv­er af­ter al­most ten min­utes.His friends at­tempt­ed to re­sus­ci­tate him but were un­suc­cess­ful. In­ves­ti­ga­tors be­lieve that James was in­tox­i­cat­ed at the time of his drown­ing.He was rushed to hos­pi­tal in a maxi-taxi and was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival.

An au­top­sy will be per­formed lat­er to­day at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre in St James.Tu­na­puna Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
