Weekend drownings at dam and river
A weekend river lime at Caura ended in tragedy for a group of friends when a 21-year-old man drowned yesterday.Reports stated that around 1.45 pm, Adrian James, of Morne Coco Road, Petit Valley, was liming with friends at Pool One in Caura.James' friends told police that he and his girlfriend were attempting to swim acrosss the river to fetch their belongings, when James got into difficulties.
James, who was described as a weak swimmer, was pulled underwater and disappeared for a couple of minutes.His girlfriend alerted other limers who rushed to their assistance. A unconscious James was rescued from the river after almost ten minutes.His friends attempted to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful. Investigators believe that James was intoxicated at the time of his drowning.He was rushed to hospital in a maxi-taxi and was pronounced dead on arrival.
An autopsy will be performed later today at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.Tunapuna Police are continuing investigations.
