Cops find part of Imbert's stolen loot

Less than three days af­ter thieves raid­ed the Mar­aval home of Diego Mar­tin North East MP Colm Im­bert, steal­ing more than $500,000 in elec­tron­ic items and for­eign and lo­cal cur­ren­cy, po­lice on Wednes­day re­cov­ered al­most half the stolen loot at a house in Mar­aval.Po­lice, led by Se­nior Supt Ish­mael David, went to Back Street, Le Plat­te Vil­lage, Mar­aval, where they be­gan to search sev­er­al homes for the stolen items.

They said they saw two men run­ning from a house to a bushy area across the road and chased them but were un­able to catch them.The po­lice then searched the house and found elec­tron­ic goods, in­clud­ing a tele­vi­sion and a gam­ing con­sole. A size­able quan­ti­ty of cash al­so was re­cov­ered. The items were tak­en to the Mar­aval Po­lice Sta­tion. Im­bert lat­er iden­ti­fied the items.In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the of­fi­cers in­volved in the raid were able to iden­ti­fy the sus­pects and their ar­rests were im­mi­nent.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 9 am on Mon­day, Im­bert left his son asleep at their Hills­boro, Mar­aval, home.Po­lice said around mid­day, his son woke up and re­alised some­one had bro­ken in. The two lat­er told in­ves­ti­ga­tors ap­prox­i­mate­ly $244,000 in items, $200,000 in lo­cal cur­ren­cy and $20,000 in US cur­ren­cy were miss­ing from the house.Sgt Roberts and PC Bernard are prob­ing the bur­glary.

The same group of po­lice raid­ed a ware­house in St James on Wednes­day af­ter­noon, re­cov­er­ing stolen house­hold ap­pli­ances.They went to a build­ing at Al­fred Richards Street, St James, where they ex­e­cut­ed a search war­rant. They ar­rest­ed the four oc­cu­pants of the house af­ter they dis­cov­ered sev­er­al stolen ap­pli­ances which in­clud­ed stoves, wash­ing ma­chines and dish wash­ers.The items were re­port­ed stolen last week by an ap­pli­ance dis­trib­u­tor based in El So­cor­ro.

While in­ves­ti­gat­ing, po­lice learned one of the sus­pects was a for­mer em­ploy­ee of the com­pa­ny from which the items were stolen.The sus­pects re­mained de­tained up to late yes­ter­day and are ex­pect­ed to take part in iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades lat­er to­day.Supt Pat­ter­son and In­sp Hen­ry Dann led both ex­er­cis­es.
