National junior taekwondo athlete Nekisha Sorias, won this country's first Poomsae gold medal at the Pan American Open International Taekwondo Championship in Queretaro, Mexico from September 20-22.
Sorias, representing the Taekwondo Tiger's club, competed in the Girls 14-17 age group of the Poomsae category and finished on top of the field to create history for T&T.
Another T&T club, Sankar's Taekwondo School, took home seven medals at the Games.
Temitayo Celestine (Boys 10-11) and Chelsea Mofford (10-11), daughter of coaches Colin Mofford and Cheryl-Ann Sankar, both won gold in their respective heavyweight divisions, while Nile Teesdale (Boys 14-17) took top honours in the Flyweight category.
Sebastien Wing (Boys 8-9 Middleweight), Jesus John (Boys 14-17 Featherweight) and Jean-Maurice Young (Boys 10-11 Heavyweight) all won silver medals, while Shane Persaud grabbed bronze in the Boys 14-17 Bantam weight class.
