Na­tion­al ju­nior taek­won­do ath­lete Nek­isha So­rias, won this coun­try's first Poom­sae gold medal at the Pan Amer­i­can Open In­ter­na­tion­al Taek­won­do Cham­pi­onship in Quere­taro, Mex­i­co from Sep­tem­ber 20-22.

So­rias, rep­re­sent­ing the Taek­won­do Tiger's club, com­pet­ed in the Girls 14-17 age group of the Poom­sae cat­e­go­ry and fin­ished on top of the field to cre­ate his­to­ry for T&T.

An­oth­er T&T club, Sankar's Taek­won­do School, took home sev­en medals at the Games.

Temi­tayo Ce­les­tine (Boys 10-11) and Chelsea Mof­ford (10-11), daugh­ter of coach­es Col­in Mof­ford and Cheryl-Ann Sankar, both won gold in their re­spec­tive heavy­weight di­vi­sions, while Nile Tees­dale (Boys 14-17) took top ho­n­ours in the Fly­weight cat­e­go­ry.

Se­bastien Wing (Boys 8-9 Mid­dleweight), Je­sus John (Boys 14-17 Feath­er­weight) and Jean-Mau­rice Young (Boys 10-11 Heavy­weight) all won sil­ver medals, while Shane Per­saud grabbed bronze in the Boys 14-17 Ban­tam weight class.
