The Art Society of T&T (ASTT) will host an exhibition to mark its 70th anniversary.
The show will open on November 15, at 6 pm, at the Society's headquarters on Jamaica Blvd and St Vincent Avenue, Federation Park and will feature a diverse range of creative works including photographs, paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculpture and digital art.
The ASTT has held an annual November Members' Group exhibition for many years. This year's event throws a spotlight on the ASTT as the oldest visual arts organisation in the country. Visitors to the exhibit can expect to see a selection of work by the Art Society's current members. One focal point will be the anniversary wall upon which 70 square canvas panels–each painted by members of the ASTT–will be presented as a huge installation. Each panel will be priced at $1,000 in an effort to encourage first-time buyers.
The Art Society sees its 70th anniversary as a fitting occasion for acknowledging the work of T&T's visual arts icons, a release from the organisation said.
As such, another key aspect of the show will be the display of art by Carlisle Chang and other senior, leading artists–many of whom have guided the efforts of the ASTT.
The ASTT reminds members that the submission dates for artworks are October 30 November 1, from 10 am to 5 pm. As preparations continue, the ASTT welcomes financial support from the business community to help with the cost of making the event a special one.
The 70th anniversary exhibition runs until November 30.
Schools are invited to make an appointment to bring their art classes.
