Brian Mac Farlane has won the George Bailey Award for Band of the Year for the sixth consecutive year. Mac Farlane's Sanctification–In Search Of scored 1,337 points. Trini Revellers placed second with 1,278 points for its presentation Carnival, The Golden Years, while Legacy's Flight came in third with 1,246 points. The results were announced yesterday at a press conference held by the National Carnival Commission (NCC) at the VIP Lounge, Queen's Park Savannah.
President of the NCC Patrick Arnold announced the winners of the (Large) Band of the Year (Seniors) category. Mac Farlane is now on par with deceased mas man Wayne Berkeley who captured the title consecutively from 1989 to 1994. Efforts to contact Mac Farlane proved futile. In 2007, Mac Farlane won the title with India: the Story of Boyie; in 2008, with Earth: Cries of Despair; in 2009, with Africa: Her People, Her Glory, Her Tears; in 2010, with Resurrection–the Mas and last year with Humanity: Circle of Life.
Ronnie and Caro's The Mas Band placed fourth with 1,181 points; Showtime Trinidad's Species came in fifth with 1,167 points; Trinidad All Stars (Steelband) Fleets In placed sixth with 1,126 points and Dream Team Carnival's Untamed placed seventh with 1,022 points. In a stark contrast, Mac Farlane copped second position in the Downtown Carnival. The results were released in a statement by the Port-of-Spain City Corporation late yesterday. Trini Revellers captured first place and Legacy, ranked third.
The Catholic Band's Exodus, The Second Book of the Bible, produced by The Word and Associates, failed to secure a place in the Downtown Carnival competition. The band, now in its second year won the NCC's medium Band of the Year title with 1,208 points. Machel Montano's Pump Yuh Flag was played 61 times downtown. He is the 2012 Road March champ.
