Former PNM minister Camille Robinson-Regis who was once accused of misusing a credit card says Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan was totally outside of his remit in using a Government-issued credit card to purchase items. "Personally, I think if something like that happens the Member of Parliament should at the earliest opportunity apologise and try to indicate what may have led to the impropriety."
At yesterday's PNM General Council Meeting, the issue involving the alleged use of the credit cards by Tobago Development Minister Vernella Alleyne-Toppin and Khan was raised. Robinson-Regis said it was important for one to put their cards on the table. "I was surprised at what he (Khan) said about the way he used the credit card, in terms of making online purchases and that kind of thing, which is totally outside the remit of the use of the credit card."
Stating that it was interesting for her to talk about the credit card issue, "but the Lord works in mysterious ways". Robinson-Regis said she hoped that people had understood her situation, which she explained then and even up to this day. "I trust, that, it is noted, that at no time did I use the funds of the government of Trinidad and Tobago. I just want to reiterate that." Five years ago, Robinson-Regis who served as minister of planning and development was also embroiled in an alleged credit card fiasco.
