The TSTT Indian Cultural Association (TICA) celebrated Indian Arrival Day at the Cipero Work Centre, San Fernando on May 25. The event was titled, Hamaareh Desh Ki Bahumoolya Viraasat, meaning, "Our Country's Rich Heritage" and featured an interfaith service focusing on the Hindu, Islamic and Christian faiths in recognition of the diversity of the Indo-Trinidadian community. The evening also included an East Indian museum with various artifacts from India as well as from during the period of indentureship. Items of clothing, traditional and otherwise as well as musical instruments were also on show. Following the service and official greetings, Syed Hosein opened the show with a qaseeda. This was followed by a hymn from Hemwattie Ramlochan and performances from the band Xsitaaz. The band also provided accompaniment for performers including TSTT's staff members, Pavita Ramsook, Jaggert Mohammed and Boodram Ramnarine. Guests were also treated to performances by Indira Mahatoo, Ravi Jagroop and KMYG Chowtal, as well as goodies such doubles, aloo pie and sada roti with pumpkin and baigan. The TICA was established 13 years ago and its main annual production has been the Indian Arrival Day Programme, which has been held at the Cipero Work Centre since its inception.
