TICA celebrates rich T&T heritage for Indian Arrival Day

The TSTT In­di­an Cul­tur­al As­so­ci­a­tion (TICA) cel­e­brat­ed In­di­an Ar­rival Day at the Cipero Work Cen­tre, San Fer­nan­do on May 25. The event was ti­tled, Hamaareh Desh Ki Bahu­moolya Vi­raasat, mean­ing, "Our Coun­try's Rich Her­itage" and fea­tured an in­ter­faith ser­vice fo­cus­ing on the Hin­du, Is­lam­ic and Chris­t­ian faiths in recog­ni­tion of the di­ver­si­ty of the In­do-Trinida­di­an com­mu­ni­ty. The evening al­so in­clud­ed an East In­di­an mu­se­um with var­i­ous ar­ti­facts from In­dia as well as from dur­ing the pe­ri­od of in­den­ture­ship. Items of cloth­ing, tra­di­tion­al and oth­er­wise as well as mu­si­cal in­stru­ments were al­so on show. Fol­low­ing the ser­vice and of­fi­cial greet­ings, Syed Ho­sein opened the show with a qasee­da. This was fol­lowed by a hymn from Hemwat­tie Ram­lochan and per­for­mances from the band Xsi­taaz. The band al­so pro­vid­ed ac­com­pa­ni­ment for per­form­ers in­clud­ing TSTT's staff mem­bers, Pavi­ta Ram­sook, Jag­gert Mo­hammed and Boodram Ram­nar­ine. Guests were al­so treat­ed to per­for­mances by In­di­ra Ma­ha­too, Ravi Ja­groop and KMYG Chow­tal, as well as good­ies such dou­bles, aloo pie and sa­da roti with pump­kin and baigan. The TICA was es­tab­lished 13 years ago and its main an­nu­al pro­duc­tion has been the In­di­an Ar­rival Day Pro­gramme, which has been held at the Cipero Work Cen­tre since its in­cep­tion.
