Defending champions Hillview College completed a season treble when they beat Iere High School by five wickets in the final of the Powergen Secondary Schools Cricket League Daren Ganga Intercol T20 competition at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre on Friday night. Man of the Match Anthony Simmons' heroic 39 off 24 balls made the victory possible for Hillview, who had already won the 50-Over League and Super Sixes titles. Chasing 131 for victory, Hillview were cruising at 88 for three in the 13th over when Brandon Ramdial (6) and opener Duane Cockburn (47 off 43) were dismissed off consecutive balls. That brought in Simmons, who went on to dominate an unbroken 43-run stand with Jeremy Solozano (4 no) to take his school home with seven balls to spare. His innings included two sixes and two fours.

Iere's total of 130 for six was made possible by number three Zachary Ragoonath, who cleared the rope six times during his violent 76 off 46 balls. Iere were in trouble at 64 for four after 12 overs when Jeron Joseph (14 no) joined Ragoonath for a 49 run partnership lasting 6.1 overs. After Ragoonath was dismissed with the score on 114 at the start of the penultimate over, Iere managed to add another 16 runs. The wickets were shared among Rajiv Singh (1-32), Idrees Mohammed (1-22), Brian Christmas (1-23) and captain Shaquille Allick (1-18). Speaking to the Guardian yesterday, Hillview coach Richard Kelly said his players were still on a high following the victory. "It was fantastic. It's what we set out to do at the start of the season and it's great to finally accomplish it. Some of the players were calling me at one o'clock In the morning afterwards. That's how excited they were."
