Annie Alexander will be going for her second medal when she takes to the field in the women's shot put on the final day of action at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium, Des Moines, Iowa, USA later today. Alexande (Tennessee) is listed in the second group in the qualifying round and will have to finish in the top nine to advance to the finals set for the same day.
On Wednesday, Alexander became the first T&T and Caribbean competitor to medal at this year's meet when she copped bronze in the women's discus with 57.55 metres. Louisiana State University Semoy Hackett and Kyron Blaise will also seek medals in individual events. Hackett is also in the finals of the women's 200m after she was seventh quickest in the semis (23.02) on Thursday. She would want to redeem herself after the disappointment of not making the finals of the women's 100m. Hackett will also contest the women's 4x100m finals. Blaise is in the field in the men's triple jump and will compete in the second group and will be aiming to finish in the top nine to advance to the final round.
In relay action, Hackett will be joined by Britney St Louis in the women's 4x100m finals. St Louis and her Florida State University will line up in lane two with Hackett's LSU in lane sixth. In the men's 4x100m finals Zwede Hewitt's Baylor will start in lane two. Hewitt will be back in action in the men's 4x400m finals as Baylor advanced clocking 3:03:69 seconds to finish third in yesterday's semifinals.
