Aleyah Ali and Trea­sure Haynes are favourites to take the top prizes as the T&T Draughts and Check­ers As­so­ci­a­tion hosts its first Pri­ma­ry School Draughts com­pe­ti­tion to­mor­row from 10.30 am at the Lar­ry Gomes Sta­di­um, Ari­ma. Both girls re­cent­ly took part in the na­tion­al draughts cham­pi­onship which took place last month. Ali placed fifth in the cham­pi­onship.

Hun­dreds of chil­dren from var­i­ous schools, as far as Ce­dros, are ex­pect­ed to par­tic­i­pate due to the high de­mand in the schools through­out the coun­try. The com­pe­ti­tion will be di­vid­ed in two cat­e­gories for boys and girls. There will be over $5,000 in prizes and all par­tic­i­pants will re­ceive medals. The top ten play­ers in both cat­e­gories will re­ceive draughts boards and pieces in ad­di­tion to their medals.
