Aleyah Ali and Treasure Haynes are favourites to take the top prizes as the T&T Draughts and Checkers Association hosts its first Primary School Draughts competition tomorrow from 10.30 am at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. Both girls recently took part in the national draughts championship which took place last month. Ali placed fifth in the championship.
Hundreds of children from various schools, as far as Cedros, are expected to participate due to the high demand in the schools throughout the country. The competition will be divided in two categories for boys and girls. There will be over $5,000 in prizes and all participants will receive medals. The top ten players in both categories will receive draughts boards and pieces in addition to their medals.
