A fresh ‘Breath of Dance’ at Queen’s Hall

Breath of Dance The­atre (BODT) re­cent­ly staged Cel­e­brat­ing a Stronger Re­turn at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s.

The youth-fo­cused group, found­ed in 2012 by Pre­cious Cor­nelius with just two stu­dents, has blos­somed in­to a thriv­ing com­pa­ny of 30 dancers, of­fer­ing tu­ition in the gen­res of folk, mod­ern con­tem­po­rary and ur­ban styles.

The group’s name was in­spired by Cor­nelius’ mot­to “To dance is to breathe, and dance equals life”

The dance recital was BODT’s first live stage per­for­mance af­ter a four-year hia­tus due to the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic.

The reper­toire in­clud­ed per­for­mances by sis­ter group, the Ch­agua­nas Women’s Youth Group (CWYG), whose artis­tic di­rec­tor, Clea­vand “Fu­ra­ha” Ser­ries, is al­so a tu­tor at BODT, along with Matthew Mc­Clean and Shaw­na Mitchell.
