On July 9, the Angostura Group Employees’ Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited (AGECU) celebrated its 50th anniversary—a significant milestone that coincided with the imminent completion of its new administrative building, scheduled for next month.
From its humble beginnings in 1975 as the Trinidad Distillers Credit Union Co-operative Society Ltd, AGECU has evolved into a dynamic financial institution, expanding its membership beyond employees of Angostura Ltd and their immediate families to serve a growing and diverse base.
In 2020, the credit union launched its rebranding and transformation initiative, an ambitious project aimed at driving the organisation into a digital and member-centric future.
The initiative includes upgrading core products, introducing new services, and implementing advanced technology solutions to deliver greater value and convenience for members.
The anniversary celebration featured a ceremonial cake-cutting by AGECU president Lambert George, alongside members of the board and statutory committees. This symbolic act marked the start of a year-long series of commemorative activities.
In his address, George paid tribute to former presidents and stalwarts whose dedication and service laid the foundation for AGECU’s success over the past five decades.
Looking ahead, AGECU will continue to host 50th-anniversary events while advancing its transformation agenda—reinforcing its commitment to remaining the premier financial institution of choice for its members.
