This May, the world’s longest-running beauty pageant—Miss World—returns to India, with the vibrant and youthful state of Telangana, proudly stepping into the global spotlight as host. Spanning four weeks from May 7 to 31, the 72nd edition of the Miss World Pageant will unfold across scenic destinations in Telangana, culminating in an opening and closing celebration in Hyderabad.
Following the success of the 71st Miss World staged in New Delhi and Mumbai, the festival now moves to a state where “tradition meets innovation and beauty is celebrated in all forms”.
Telangana—India’s youngest state—has emerged as a symbol of progress, pairing cultural richness with cutting-edge infrastructure and global connectivity. From a world-class airport and thriving IT and pharmaceutical sectors, to a robust health ecosystem and vibrant film industry, Telangana has quickly carved a name for itself on the world map.
And now, with over 120 countries and territories participating in this international celebration of purpose-driven beauty, Telangana stands ready to welcome the world.
Carrying the red, white, and black of Trinidad and Tobago with poise and purpose is Anna-Lise Nanton, a 27-year-old geotechnical civil engineer from Santa Cruz. A proud alumna of St Joseph’s Convent, Port-of-Spain, and an open scholarship recipient, Nanton holds a first-class honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bath. Her professional journey has taken her from Earth Investigation Systems Ltd in T&T to the global stage with Arup (UK).
Now, she is channelling her intellect, compassion, and charisma into representing T&T on the Miss World platform—guided by a powerhouse team that includes former Miss World T&T Giselle Laronde-West, pageant mentor Richard Young, PR specialist Adrian Raymond, wellness coach Rana Ibrahim, and under the leadership of National Director Charu Lochan Dass.
Nanton’s platform, “The Ripple Effect”, embraces education, sport, and technology as catalysts for change. From teaching swimming through her work with IChooseSport, to empowering children via her Anna-Lise AI health and nutrition portal, her efforts are multi-dimensional and deeply impactful. She believes in creating ripples of change that can turn into a powerful wave—helping young people build skills, adopt healthy lifestyles, and discover new opportunities.
Her Hike-and-Plant initiative, which led to the planting of over 1,000 trees, aligns environmental wellness with personal health, while her school outreach through the Pads-on-a-Roll Project (LSA Healthcare) and AI Tutor (WizdomCRM)—both Ministry of Education-approved—has touched the lives of over 2,000 children.
But Nanton’s impact doesn’t end with social initiatives. A passionate advocate for holistic well-being, she remains actively involved in sports such as football, touch rugby, hiking, and running, embodying the philosophy that health is both a mental and physical journey.
To Nanton, “true beauty transcends physical appearance; it lies in discovering one’s purpose and making a meaningful difference in the world while remaining authentic to oneself.”
She follows in the footsteps of Aché Abrahams, Miss World Caribbean and second runner-up at the previous staging, and continues the tradition of powerful, purposeful representation for T&T.
The official announcement of the 72nd Miss World Festival was made by Julia Morley CBE, Chairman and CEO of Miss World Limited, alongside Ms Smita Sabharwal, Secretary to the Government of Telangana, Tourism, Culture, Heritage, and Youth Affairs.
Julia Morley shared her excitement: “We are delighted to bring the 72nd Miss World Festival to Telangana, a state that beautifully represents its rich culture, innovation, and hospitality. Partnering with the Telangana government allows us to showcase its incredible heritage and dynamic growth to a global audience. This collaboration is not just about hosting the Miss World Festival; it’s about empowering communities, celebrating diversity, and making a lasting impact through our shared commitment to beauty with a purpose.”
Sabharwal echoed this vision: “Telangana is proud to announce that it will be hosting the 72nd Miss World 2025, welcoming the world to witness a land where beauty is not just what meets the eye; it is what resonates with its land, people, culture and traditions… This platform will showcase the rich handloom legacy, spectacular destinations, scrumptious cuisine, art-forms and crafts of timeless Telangana.”
She added, “Hosting the 72nd Miss World Festival is to tell the world that Telangana is ready–ready to showcase its spirit, its warmth, and its boundless potential.”
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in Trinidad and Tobago continues to lend support to the Miss World T&T platform—nurturing young female role models and amplifying the nation’s visibility on the international stage.
As Telangana prepares to welcome the world, the message is clear:
“Telangana, Zarur Aana”—Come, for this is where beauty finds its truest meaning.
