Reigning Calypso Monarch Terri Lyons was a force to be reckoned with on all levels.
The entertainer was a show stopper at her first concert at Naparima Bowl, San Fernando recently (November 20) and was included on the scroll matriarchal women of song in T&T by her father Austin “SuperBlue” Lyons.
I am Lion the Concert was part of the 34th anniversary of San Fernando city status, dubbed Let the Celebration Begin.
Lyons shared the stage with several other artists including Patrice Roberts, Brian London, Devon “Dev” Harris, Andre “Viking Ding Dong” Houlder, College Boy Jessie, Preedy, Maria Bhola, Nadia Batson, Ricardo Drue, Weston Cro Cro” Rawlins, Stephen Marcell, and Karene Asche.
From the get-go, Lyons amplified the content of the show as she moved on stage and introduced each act. She sometimes joined some in song, regulated the music band, had two wardrobe changes and performed her classics Obeah, Megan My Dear, Fling Bam Bam, Calypso, and some newbies and a gospel segment.
In the second half, the audience rose to their feet to welcome her father SuperBlue with some of his classics.
During SuperBlue set, Terri joined him on stage.
When she appeared, SuperBlue hugged her and said: “God bless you, you are among the great artists to walk the earth. I love you!”
The show was set to begin at 6 pm and end at 10 pm, but four hours were still not enough to accommodate the many entertainers listed for the show.
Terri said she is planning to take the show to Tobago and New York City.
