There is a deafening silence from the executive management of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Tobago’s Division on the resignation of vice chairman Martin George.
George, an attorney who had held the position since March, announced his resignation via Facebook on Tuesday night.
George had been given the responsibility of leading the management team after its chairman, Claude Benoit, was abruptly removed from office while on vacation last month.
In announcing his departure from the Chamber on social media, George said he had sent correspondence earlier in the day to the business association.
He said the demands of his office had prevented him from devoting the time required to the post of vice chairman.
“(It) appears to be cyclical and in my respectful view counter-productive, instead of being forward moving and progressive.”
However, George said he will continue serving Tobago and advocate on its behalf through public appearances.
Reached for a comment on George’s resignation, executive management committee member Dianne Hadad said because it was “an internal organisation issue” she would not comment.
Benoit, the chamber’s former chairman who was removed from office for alleged absenteeism and non-communication, meanwhile told Tobago Today he “cannot comment on the issue at this time.”
George was also contacted for further comment on his decision. However, he said his Facebook statement “is quite comprehensive and explains everything at this time.”
Tobago Today understands the Trinidad Chamber has met on the situation and will work with the Tobago executive to find a resolution to the matter as soon as possible.
