A 92-year-old man who allegedly chopped Sahadaye Ramnath, 63, remains under police guard at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, ASP Ramdhani Dipchan of the Central Police Division has confirmed.
Speaking with Guardian Media on Sunday, ASP Dipchand said only when the man is released from the care of the hospital the police may take further action.
Sahadaye Ramnath was chopped about her body, face and head, and her left thumb was severed during the altercation on Friday evening. The house where she lived at Longdenville Road, Longdenville was destroyed by a fire following the altercation.
Zeena Kadil, 45, the daughter of the victim said her mother was released from the EWMSC on Saturday around 2 pm. Kadil said her mother is staying with her because she has nowhere else to live.
“My mother has lost everything,” she told Guardian Media. “She doesn’t have any clothes and now she may not even see again from her left eye because she was chopped across the face.”
“Everything had burned in the house and my mother needs some help. Christmas this year was cancelled for us, we have to see about my mother, and we need help to rebuild her home,” Kadil said.
Sahadaye Ramnath was visited on Sunday by members of the Open Bible Church of Longdenville.
