The speed barrier at the Perseverance Road River Bridge, Chaguanas, has collapsed on a vehicle after being struck once again.
Councillor for the area, Sundar Jookoo, says motorists are fed up.
Councillor Jookoo told Guardian Media the latest incident occurred on Friday when a van hit the barrier, and it fell. He noted that motorists who attempt to pass the barrier sometimes strike it.
The local government official believes the problem could be solved by raising the barrier at least another 6-inches, to allow minibuses and light pick-up trucks to pass. He said at present, the barrier is 8-feet high.
According to Councillor Jookoo, the barrier has been patched in a shoddy manner in the last few months.
He said the repairs were so badly done that much effort may not be needed for the remaining barrier on the southern side of the bridge to collapse.
