NPATT Primary School Parang Competition; Morvant Anglican wins again

Javon Mur­ray guid­ed Mor­vant An­gli­can to the Pri­ma­ry School to a suc­cess­ful de­fence of their ti­tle in this year’s Na­tion­al Ju­nior Parang Fes­ti­val at the Bish­op Anstey High School, Port-of-Spain, on Sat­ur­day.

Mur­ray and his school­mates de­liv­ered a stir­ring ren­di­tion of Va­mos a Belén to get the judges’ nod ahead of 21 oth­er schools in the com­pe­ti­tion.

Mor­vant An­gli­can earned 90.5 of a pos­si­ble 100 points, well ahead of Sa­cred Heart Girls’ RC (86.5 pts), who per­formed Bi­en­venido Niño Di­vi­no and St Pe­ter’s RC and Nel­son Street Boys’ RC, who fin­ished joint third with 76.5 points, for their ren­di­tions of El Gran Nacimien­to and El An­gel Gabriel re­spec­tive­ly.

In guid­ing Mor­vant An­gli­can to the ti­tle, Mur­ray al­so copped the Best Male Vo­cal­ist ti­tle for his clear and smooth de­liv­ery, the Best Stage Pre­sen­ta­tion and Best Dressed awards.

The Best Fe­male Vo­cal­ist ti­tle went to Sa­cred Heart Girls’ Azari­ah Fred­er­ick. The an­nu­al event, which cel­e­brates T&T’s Christ­mas tra­di­tion of parang with the younger gen­er­a­tion, drew more pri­ma­ry school bands this year and con­tin­ued yes­ter­day with the Sec­ondary Schools com­pe­ti­tion.
