It’s an event on the Carnival calendar which aims to raise awareness for breast cancer.
The 2024 edition of PINKnic TT is scheduled to take place at Fatima Grounds on Carnival Saturday from 3-9 pm.
The event, which is put on by the Air Committee, was first held in October 2019 and coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Air Committee Director Shane Baird said the motivation to create the event came from wanting to make a positive impact by combining a party-like atmosphere with a purpose.
“The event aims to raise awareness and bring attention to breast cancer in a fun and engaging way,” he added.
“Part of the proceeds generated from the event will be dedicated to funding important research and treatment initiatives aimed at raising awareness for breast cancer. It allows people to come together, have a good time, and party with a purpose.”
The first edition of PINKnic in 2019 supported the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society with a donation of $25,000 (TT). This year, PINKnic will collaborate with the Pink Hibiscus Foundation.
Baird revealed that his committee consists of an average of 50 female members as he highlighted the importance of PINKnic’s commitment to creating a safe environment for women.
“It reflects our dedication to promoting gender equality, empowerment, and fostering a sense of community among women while they party in luxurious style and fashion,” he said.
At the 2024 edition, women will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in unique and captivating photo opportunities, designed to provide a memorable and interactive experience.
“They will be given the chance to showcase their ‘best self’ in a classy and deluxe manner which ultimately builds confidence and creativity,” said Baird.
“We believe that women play an important role in society and we aim to ensure that their honour is upheld by creating an atmosphere for every woman to take a break from their hectic lives and come ‘free up’ and support this important cause.
“The interactive photo ops will feature artistic installations, and captivating backdrops, allowing guests to capture stunning and share-worthy moments. Whether it’s posing with larger-than-life props or stepping into immersive photo booths, there will be an abundance of opportunities for guests to create incredible memories.”
In addition to the interactive photo ops, the event will offer exotic eats and drinks.
“From handcrafted cocktails made with top-shelf spirits to an extensive wine and champagne list, guests will have the chance to indulge in the finest beverages available,” Baird said.
“Complementing the premium drinks will be a wide selection of different exotic dishes. The event aims to showcase a diverse range of cuisines from around the world, offering a culinary journey for attendees. From traditional delicacies to fusion creations.”
Baird also offered some advice to women for Carnival 2024:
“Be aware of your surroundings, stick with your friends and avoid isolated areas. It’s recommended to have a designated meeting point in case you get separated.
“Choose outfits that are suitable for the Carnival atmosphere while keeping comfort in mind. Comfortable shoes are particularly important, as you may be standing or walking for long periods.
“Carry a water bottle with you and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Carnival events can be physically demanding, and it’s important to stay hydrated.”
He encouraged women to pace themselves to avoid exhaustion, always keep an eye on their drinks and avoid accepting drinks from strangers.
