The Chinese Embassy hosted awarded scholarship grants to three students who reside in the Borough of Arima on Wednesday at the Arima Community Centre on Anglican Street Arima.
The three awardees were Kyle Leera, a student of Arima Boys’ RC, Evangelene Farfan, a student of El Dorado East Secondary School and Sy’rai of St Joseph Convent, Port-of-Spain.
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Trinidad and Tobago Fang Qui said the grants will be used to assist the recipients of the scholarship with their educational expenses.
He said China and Trinidad and Tobago had ties for over 200 years and added that China will always be of assistance to Trinidad and Tobago.
He said China played a significant role in the time of COVID-19 and supplied the country with vaccines.
Arima Mayor Cagney Casimire also reinforced that Trinidad and Tobago had ties for a number of years with China.
He said most of the shops in the borough were run by Chinese nationals and even today they have expanded and opened supermarkets and clothes stores.
He thanked Ambassador Fang Qui for granting the scholarships to three of the borough’s children.
