Caribbean Airlines’ chairman Shameer “Ronnie” Mohammed

The res­ig­na­tions from ma­jor state or­gan­i­sa­tions con­tin­ued yes­ter­day, as Caribbean Air­lines’ chair­man Shameer ‘Ron­nie’ Mo­hammed con­firmed to staff he was step­ping down.

In a bul­letin to staff Mo­hammed said, “As I pre­pare to step down from my role as chair­man of the board of di­rec­tors, I want to take a mo­ment to ex­press my heart­felt grat­i­tude to each, and every one of you at Caribbean Air­lines. It has been an in­cred­i­ble jour­ney work­ing along­side such a ded­i­cat­ed and pas­sion­ate group of in­di­vid­u­als.”

The staff no­tice con­tin­ued, “To­geth­er, we have nav­i­gat­ed chal­lenges, cel­e­brat­ed achieve­ments, and built a com­pa­ny that not on­ly con­nects the Caribbean, but al­so pro­vides a sense of pride and iden­ti­ty for our re­gion. I am tru­ly proud of what we have ac­com­plished to­geth­er, and I have every con­fi­dence that the fu­ture of Caribbean Air­lines is bright.”

Mo­hammed was ap­point­ed to the board of Caribbean Air­lines in No­vem­ber 2016.

His an­nounce­ment fol­lows the res­ig­na­tions of Sahid Ho­sein as the chair­man of the Na­tion­al Pe­tro­le­um Mar­ket­ing Co Ltd and Hillan More­an as chair­man of the East Port-of-Spain De­vel­op­ment Com­pa­ny Ltd on Tues­day.

Both an­nounce­ments were made with ref­er­ence to the vic­to­ry by the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress in Mon­day’s Gen­er­al Elec­tion with both men stat­ing that it was the best prac­tice giv­en the change in gov­ern­ment.
