Several Digicel+ customers will see an increase in their bills from February after the company announced it would be phasing out select bundles.
“Over the past year, our Digicel Team has been improving support for our customers’ rapidly changing needs as they transitioned to hybrid working models. As you can imagine, customers today require even more reliable and powerful internet, faster speeds, a wider range of entertainment products that complement their new digital lifestyles and simpler ways for them to choose bundles that offer the best value,” Digicel stated in a notice yesterday.
As such, from February 1, Digicel stated it will be migrating all of its Variety 100 and 150 Bundle subscribers to one streamlined package called the Variety 200 Bundle, where customers will now have a minimum bandwidth speed of 200 Mbps.
“Additionally, customers would also gain access to nine additional channels, which includes HBO premium content and the right to use HBOMax,” Digicel stated.
“This bundle also includes Disney+ access, a fibre phone with 100 Anywhere Minutes and the availability of 200 hours of recordings. As we continue our improvements, it has become necessary to make some adjustments to our existing rates in order to meet the increased costs that come with providing these enhancements. As a result, we advise that effective February 1, 2023 your new base subscription will be $55,” it stated.
In June 2021, Digicel upgraded all of its subscribers to a minimum broadband speed of 100 Mbps and rolled out a new Smart WiFi solution to assist larger households in getting a more stable internet connection throughout the entire home.
The cost of the Variety 100 bundle was stated as $515 then. The Variety 150 bundle was $565.
On June 15 last year, the cost of those bundles increased to $520 and $570, respectively.
Asked about the reason behind the increase Digicel stated:
“It is best practice to constantly review product offerings to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of customers. Over the past year, our customers’ needs have rapidly changed as they transitioned to hybrid working models and continued online schooling. Customers now request simplified choices of bundles that give the best value, a wider range of entertainment, and more powerful and reliable internet with even faster speeds. Back in 2015 when we launched our Fibre To The Home (FTTH) service, packages offered minimum speeds of just 30 Mbps but now with this new bundle, customers are getting minimum speeds of 200 Mbps to further complements their digital lifestyles.”
Digicel stated that these were all factors contributing to the launch of the new bundles.
“Digicel+ offers a wide range of packages, from internet only to bundled packages inclusive of several services. For example, we have a bundled Smart Home Connect plan that includes- IPTV, internet, phone, smart WiFi and our smart home security suite. The new Variety 200 Bundle is just one of many packages available, with several other packages both above and below this price point,” Digicel stated.
Digicel stated that there are still separate internet and TV packages available as options to customers.
“Yes, Digicel+ continues to provide a truly customised experience for customers. This includes the ability to select several of our services as stand-alone plans,” it stated.
