Digicel will be investing approximately US$10 million over the next three years via its expansion and roll out into Penal and Debe, said Navin Balkissoon, General Manager of Digicel.

He said so during the launch of the Digicel expansion into the Penal/Debe area which took place at C3 Mall yesterday.

Balkissoon explained that Digicel is expanding its service area, bringing T&T’s fastest fibre broadband network to Debe and Penal and to various housing developments including multi-dwelling units across T&T.

“This expansion will provide connectivity for 20,000 residents over the coming months,” Balkissoon added

He said when Digicel first launched its home and entertainment service, the company revolutionised the industry with a simple goal: to establish itself as the best provider in the country.

“Under the brand Digicel Play, we not only became Trinidad and Tobago’s first true national fibre to the home provider, we also gave customers unprecedented power and control over their viewing experience, which they never had; like the ability to pause, rewind and replay live television, and the option to select from thousands of Video On Demand titles to view what they want when they wanted,” Balkissoon further explained.

He added that the company evolved into the super fast Digicel delivering more speed, more power and more reliability.

“Today, we service approximately 110,000 customers across T&T,” Balkissoon noted.

Abraham Smith, CEO of Digicel, who also spoke noted that a problem south Trinidad currently has is the lack of fast and reliable fibre broadband connectivity.

However, he said Digicel is making the bold step to solve that problem.

“At Digicel, we eat, sleep and breathe technology and we know the urgency with which companies and residents need to arm themselves with the most innovative digital solutions and advancements to win,” Smith said.

He added that the expansion can add real value to the community from having Digicel’s business solutions team support, collaborate and consult with the business community in Penal and Debe, to the establishment of community computer and technology labs to ensure that connectivity is accessible to all.
