Partnerships in agro-processing between T&T and Guyana can further strengthen, says the president of the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CCIC) Baldath Maharaj.
Maharaj made the comments while speaking to Guyanese businessmen at the Herdmanston Lodge Hotel, Georgetown at the opening of a four-day trade mission to Guyana.
The event took place yesterday.
On deepening linkages in the agri sector, Maharaj explained, “T&T has a wealth of experience and expertise in this field, while Guyana possesses abundant agricultural resources waiting to be tapped. By working together to add value to Guyana’s agricultural produce, we can create new avenues for trade, generate employment, and contribute to food security and economic resilience in both countries.”
In the realm of technology and innovation, Maharaj said there is immense potential for collaboration.
“Trinidad’s vibrant tech start-up ecosystem can serve as a valuable partner for entrepreneurs from Guyana looking to develop and scale their innovations. Through knowledge exchange, mentorship programmes and investment opportunities, we can catalyse the growth of the tech sector in Guyana and position both our countries as hubs of innovation in the region,” he added.
Further, he noted that the CCIC intends to explore avenues of mutual benefit, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will drive economic growth and prosperity for both nations.
He said, “Our focus on SMEs is deliberate and strategic. These enterprises form the backbone of our economies, driving innovation, creating jobs and fostering inclusive growth.”
Also, Maharaj noted that the world economy has signalled a reduction in fossil fuel and growth outside of oil and gas and this would give both nations an added boost to build their respective SME sectors.
“With adequate synergies on both sides we can create value-added products for the benefit or both countries and Caricom as a whole,” Maharaj added.
