This coun­try’s Supreme Court of Ju­di­ca­ture re­cent­ly ad­mit­ted 12 new Puisne Judges to its ranks.

A re­lease from the Of­fice of the Pres­i­dent re­ports that Her Ex­cel­len­cy Paula-Mae Weekes ORTT ad­min­is­tered the Oath of Of­fice to the 12 peo­ple se­lect­ed as Puisne Judges, at The Pres­i­dent's House on Thurs­day, De­cem­ber 1.

The new judges are Ms Nali­ni Singh, Mr. George Bus­by, Mrs. Jade Ro­driguez, Mrs. Mau­ri­ceia Joseph, Ms Gillian Scot­land, Mrs. Sherene Mur­ray-Bai­ley, Mrs. Ni­rala Bansee-Sookhai, Ms Karen Reid, Mrs. Hal­cy­on Yorke-Young, Mrs. Tri­cia Hudlin-Coop­er, Mrs. Lin­da Khan, and Mrs. Delisa Noel Christo­pher.

Al­so present at the cer­e­mo­ny was Chief Jus­tice, Mr. Jus­tice Ivor Archie ORTT.

The Supreme Court of Ju­di­ca­ture of Trinidad and To­ba­go is made up of The Court of Ap­peal and the High Court, as is pro­vid­ed un­der sec­tion 99 of the Con­sti­tu­tion which states:

“There shall be a Supreme Court of Trinidad and To­ba­go con­sist­ing of a High Court and a Court of Ap­peal with such ju­ris­dic­tion and pow­ers as con­ferred on these Courts re­spec­tive­ly by this Con­sti­tu­tion or any oth­er law.”
