There's often a belief that the big Lotto jackpots only come from south. However, on September 14, a resident of West Trinidad bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at Jumbo Foods Supermarket in Barataria. The winning numbers were 10, 15, 20, 24, 34, and Power Ball 9.
The winning total was $16,037,721.42.
When he was interviewed he said when he realised he had won he remained calm.
“I’m cool for now. I’m not even telling my family,” he said. "I always knew I was going to win."
An avid Lotto player, he consistently bought at least 20 tickets each week from various Lottery Centres across the country.
Since he's not telling his family he doesn't plan any major celebrations but he does plan to “invest, build my house, purchase a boat and get involved in construction.”
He may buy a new car and travel to other Caribbean islands as well.
He has already earmarked donations for two local charities.
The National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) extended its congratulations, wishing him happiness and success.
