18 Venezuelan nationals including three children were detained by police trying to enter the country illegally by boat in Carenage early this morning.
Investigators told Guardian Media the Venezuelans from Guiria were held near the Smith Hill area in Carenage around 5:35 am.
Officers of the Western Division intercepted the vessel and detained the migrants.
The nine males seen in a WhatsApp video circulating were made to lie on their stomachs while the six women and three children stood nearby.
Police have since called in immigration officials who are expected to question the Venezuelan nationals.
Sources say they are expected to be deported soon.
