An 18-year-old labour­er of Sun­flower Dri­ve, Pleas­antville, is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear at the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trates’ Court to­day, fol­low­ing his ar­rest in con­nec­tion with a rob­bery over the week­end.

The man was ar­rest­ed and charged on No­vem­ber 4 with three counts of rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion.

In a state­ment, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice stat­ed that around 2:50 pm on Sat­ur­day 2 No­vem­ber PCs Richard­son, Loutan, and Jug­mo­han, re­spond­ed to a rob­bery re­port at a store lo­cat­ed on Pointe-a-Pierre Road, San Fer­nan­do.

While con­duct­ing in­quiries at the scene, the of­fi­cers in­ter­viewed sev­er­al peo­ple and re­ceived in­for­ma­tion, then pro­ceed­ed to Balis­er Av­enue, Pleas­antville, where the sus­pects were seen.

A chase en­sued, which led of­fi­cers to a bushy area near a drain in the vicin­i­ty of Pleas­antville Health Cen­tre and Pleas­antville Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­tre, lo­cat­ed along Prince Al­bert Street, Pleas­antville.

Ac­cord­ing to the re­lease, one of the sus­pects al­leged­ly point­ed a Smith and Wes­son pis­tol at the of­fi­cers, "who see­ing the im­mi­nent dan­ger, re­spond­ed with gun­fire in self-de­fence."

An­oth­er sus­pect, a 26-year-old man lat­er iden­ti­fied as Zion Coop­er, was hit and then tak­en to San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he suc­cumbed to his in­juries.

A third sus­pect, aged 18, was de­tained, and the of­fi­cers seized a Smith and Wes­son Mod­el 59 pis­tol along with three rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.
