Two people were killed in road accidents during Friday night and yesterday morning.
In the first indident, one man was killed and five others injured after two vehicles collided in Barrackpore on Friday night.
Capildeo Mohan, 51, an operator, of Barrackpore, died on the spot while his wife, two stepdaughters, stepson and the driver of the other vehicle were injured.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 9:30 pm when Mohan's van collided with a green-coloured Almera taxi driven by a Moruga man along the Rochard Douglas Road. The report stated that the van was speeding. According to the report, the van swerved into a resident's yard, hitting a gate and concrete post. The van then flipped on the hood, trapping Mohan. The fire services used the jaws of life to remove his body.
At Mohan's Cumuto Road South home, his son Mark Rampersad, 23, said the driver of the other vehicle slammed into their van. His mother, Carla Mohan, 51 and sister Keeleeshay Rampersad, 16, are still warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. Mark and his other sister Candice Rampersad, 20, were treated and discharged from the hospital. Barrackpore police are investigating.
In the second incident, Daniel Charles, 18, succumbed to his injuries at hospital after he was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the eastbound lane of the Beetham Highway around 9.15 pm on Friday.
The accident was said to have occurred in the vicinity of the Vehicle Management Company of TT (VMCOTT).
Charles was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope, where he died while being treated.
The driver is said to be assisting police with their investigation.
In an unrelated accident, a 13-year-old Sea Lots boy remains warded at the EWMSC in critical condition after he was knocked down as he crossed the Beetham Highway with his mother on yesterday morning.
Police said around 6.50 am, Colin Peters of Production Avenue, Sea Lots was in the company of his mother as they attempted to cross the six-lane highway near the walkover. According to reports, the driver never stopped.
The Form Two student of the Tranquillity Government Primary School was taken to hospital by a passerby.
Officials are hoping that CCTV footage can help to identify the vehicle which struck Peters.
