Two suspects have been arrested in connection with two separate reports of robbery with aggravation, which occurred in the Arima and Matura districts, on Sunday.
The Police Service says in the first incident, a male victim reported to police that around 6 pm on Sunday (April 7, 2024), he was leaving his Arima workplace and was about to enter his vehicle when he was accosted by two men who announced a robbery.
The assailants reportedly relieved the victim of a quantity of valuables before fleeing the scene.
Officers of the La Horquetta Police Station who were on mobile patrol in the area apprehended one of the suspects—a 22-year-old Chaguanas man—a short distance away.
Police are still searching for the second suspect.
In the second incident, a Matura man reported to police that around 11:30 pm on Sunday, he was in the company of other persons when a man wielding a gun started making threats against them.
It is alleged that the gunman pointed the firearm in the direction of the victim and fired a shot. However, the victim was unharmed.
The assailant then allegedly relieved the victim of his cellular phone before leaving the scene.
A report was made to the police and officers of the Matura Police Station apprehended the suspect a short time later.
Investigations are ongoing into both incidents.
