The murder toll jumped to 15 on Monday night with a deadly home invasion in El Dorado and a fatal drive by shooting in Port-of-Spain.
The victims have been identified as Charisse Bramble, 32, and 70-year-old Rupert Derrick, of Picton Road, Laventille.
In that incident, in which Derrick, a retired mason from the Ministry of Works was killed, three other men were shot and wounded.
All four were shot in a drive by shooting that occurred at George Street at about 8 pm.
Police said occupants in a black Nissan Xtrail drove past and opened fire.
It is believed by Derrick’s relatives and police that he was innocently killed.
The wounded men have been identified as Teneil Rene, 27, who was shot four times in the legs; Terrance “Corn Curls” Cordner, who was shot in the right leg and Henry Fraser, 53, who was shot in the left hand.
Derrick died while undergoing medical treatment at the Port-of- Spain General Hospital.
Speaking with Guardian Media yesterday at Forensic Science Centre, Derrick’s relatives said he was on his way to play a Play Whe mark and to “make a small lime” which they said was his daily routine.
Derrick was the father of seven and was known to “mind his own business.”
“He was a cool, down to earth man, very humble. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Derrick’s relative said.
Relatives added that they strongly believe that they will get no justice as CCTV surveillance close by captured no footage.
In the other unrelated incident, at about 10.20 pm two men armed with firearms forced their way into Bramble’s home at El Dorado Road.
Police said the men opened fire on Bramble and her relative, Kent Davis, who were both in the living room.
Both victims were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, however, Bramble succumbed to her injuries.
Davis, up to late yesterday, was listed in a critical condition.
Bramble’s relatives, who were very distraught and who were at the Forensic Science Centre, declined to comment on the incident saying that they “weren’t there.”
Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
