Three men, dressed in ladies' clothing, were fined yesterday after appearing in court for loitering and possessing weapons in the Woodbrook area. Lebb Noel and Kareem "Jasmine" Potter, of Tunapuna, pleaded guilty before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates' Court and were each fined $200 for loitering. Potter, who also pleaded guilty to possessing an ice pick, was fined $500.
Potter, who wore hair extensions and ladies high-heeled shoes to court, claimed the weapon was used for protection. Ayers-Caesar asked Potter to see his six-inch heels and complemented him on it. He claimed it was dangerous being dressed in women's clothing at night in Trinidad. Potter was arrested on Elizabeth Street, Woodbrook.
Another man, Devon Edwards, 31, of Longdenville, Chaguanas, who was arrested by police on Roberts Street, Woodbrook, on Saturday night pleaded not guilty to loitering but was fined $500 after pleading guilty to having a knife in his handbag. Edwards, an interior decorator, also claimed he had the weapon for personal safety. They were arrested by officers of the Port-of-Spain CID, co-ordinated by Snr Supt Glenn Hackett, ASP Ajith Persad.
