22 new COVID deaths inches national toll closer to 3,000

Twen­ty-two more peo­ple have lost their lives to COVID-19, bring­ing the na­tion­al death toll per­ilous­ly close to 3,000.  The lat­est up­date from the Min­istry of Health re­ports that the na­tion­al toll now stands at 2,936 lives lost.

The Min­istry al­so has record­ed an­oth­er 338 peo­ple have test­ed pos­i­tive for the dis­ease, mov­ing the num­ber of to­tal ac­tive pos­i­tive cas­es to 15,183.  These lat­est in­fec­tions re­flect sam­ples tak­en be­tween 29th De­cem­ber 2021 and 2nd Jan­u­ary 2022.

In its up­date for to­day, the Min­istry notes as well that 169 pa­tients cur­rent­ly are re­cov­er­ing at step-down fa­cil­i­ties.
