622 COVID cases in schools for this term

There are now 622 COVID-19 cas­es emerg­ing among staff and stu­dents in schools na­tion­wide since the start of the third aca­d­e­m­ic term.

On Wednes­day, as he pre­sent­ed the fig­ures for cas­es be­tween May 2 and 8, which were pro­vid­ed by the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, Min­is­ter of Health Ter­rence Deyals­ingh in­di­cat­ed there were 306 cas­es com­ing from 144 schools.

The week pri­or saw 288 cas­es from 243 schools, while the first week saw 28 in­stances from 16 schools.

Mean­while, Min­is­ter Deyals­ingh not­ed they would be­gin ad­min­is­ter­ing boost­er dos­es to chil­dren be­tween 12 and 18 years of age from Fri­day. He said this is in line with re­cent guid­ance from the World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion.

While there re­mains no fi­nal word on when the pae­di­atric Pfiz­er dos­es do­nat­ed by Spain are ex­pect­ed to ar­rive, the Min­is­ter of Health is hop­ing that can be re­solved with­in a week.
