New, state-of-the-art security scanners have been installed at the Piarco International Airport, in order to enhance the safety and security of all travellers and airport users, states an advisory from the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
According to the advisory, Government recently accepted a donation from the United States Government, of two Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) scanners, which have been installed at the Piarco International Airport’s international security screening checkpoint.
“Advanced Imaging Technology not only enhances the passenger experience through the checkpoints but also strengthens our security screening systems by enabling higher threat detection standards,” the Authority’s General Manager, Hayden Newton, said in a news release.
“We are doing all in our power to send a strong signal to travellers, international visitors and national and international stakeholders that we have adopted the necessary systems to ensure high standards of safety and security at our airports,” Newton assured.
“These new features demonstrate that exceptional care and attention is being placed on providing a safe airport environment in an effort to re-build travel and investor confidence,” he added.
The Airports Authority says security operations at both the Piarco and ANR Robinson International Airports occur in a highly regulated environment, and its security procedures adhere to the strictest local and international civil aviation security standards.
The Authority stated that in order to maintain the highest levels of safety and security at the Piarco and ANR Robinson International Airports, it utilises "an integrated, multi-agency, robust operation and adopts a holistic approach by partnering with the Ministry of National Security, the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority and other International Agencies such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).”
