Af­ter gun­ning down 61-year-old Bar­rack­pore con­trac­tor De­onar­ine Ma­hase on Tues­day, the killer point­ed the gun at his friend and warned her to "stay in­side."

De­onar­ine Ma­hase, of Kan­hai Road South, was the own­er of DM Con­trac­tors Ltd. Re­ports said that he spent the night at a close friend's house on Wil­son Road, Bar­rack­pore, where he of­ten stayed.

Around 5 am, he walked to­wards his white B2500 Maz­da van, which was parked in front of the house, in­tend­ing to go to his busi­ness. The friend heard sev­er­al gun­shots and saw a masked gun­man, wear­ing a fish­er­man's hat, stand­ing over De­onar­ine, who was ly­ing on the ground un­der a shed.

The gun­man looked at her, point­ed his firearm, and said, "Stay in­side." She com­plied. Short­ly af­ter, she checked and dis­cov­ered that he was dead.
