After gunning down 61-year-old Barrackpore contractor Deonarine Mahase on Tuesday, the killer pointed the gun at his friend and warned her to "stay inside."
Deonarine Mahase, of Kanhai Road South, was the owner of DM Contractors Ltd. Reports said that he spent the night at a close friend's house on Wilson Road, Barrackpore, where he often stayed.
Around 5 am, he walked towards his white B2500 Mazda van, which was parked in front of the house, intending to go to his business. The friend heard several gunshots and saw a masked gunman, wearing a fisherman's hat, standing over Deonarine, who was lying on the ground under a shed.
The gunman looked at her, pointed his firearm, and said, "Stay inside." She complied. Shortly after, she checked and discovered that he was dead.
Officers from the Homicide Bureau Region 3 are investigating.
