Another fire has started at the Beetham landfill. According to SWMCOL a bush fire started on the western boundary of the landfill, resulting in perpetual smoke over Port-of-Spain.

The following is a press release from SWMCOL:

SWMCOL’s Emergency Management Team takes this opportunity to advise that while working to control the existing landfill fire, a bush fire has started on the western boundary of the landfill, resulting in perpetual smoke over Port of Spain.

Consequently, a decision was taken by management to close the Beetham Landfill facility to the general public at this time so resources could be focused on treating the current issue. Further information will be provided in a subsequent release as management works toward solving the current inconvenience to the general public.
