Another tropical wave is expected to make its presence felt over Trinidad and Tobago, starting tonight and continuing into tomorrow, Sunday 17 July 2022, says the latest advisory from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS).
“Occasional periods of rainfall are expected from this evening and tomorrow (Sunday), with the high chance (70%) of isolated thunderstorms as another Tropical Wave is forecast to begin affecting both islands from tonight,” forecasters warn.
The Met Service is maintaining the current Adverse Weather Alert at YELLOW LEVEL until midday on Sunday and says it will continue to monitor the status of water courses across the country.
“Though impactful weather has diminished significantly, saturated grounds as well as the presence of spring tides has resulted in extremely slow recession of water levels in inundated areas and elevated/overwhelmed rivers,” the advisory notes. “Major river courses are expected to remain contained but are being closely monitored.”
Residents along smaller water courses and areas with poor drainage should continue to be vigilant, the Met Service advises. It also is urging the public to avoid wading or driving through flood waters.
Landslips and landslides are possible in areas so prone, and persons living there are urged to take all necessary precautions.
Forecasters also point to the possibility of gusty winds in excess of 55 km/hr, especially in the vicinity of showers/thunderstorms. As such, the public is advised to secure loose outdoor items and livestock.
In addition, seas can become agitated at times in sheltered areas, so coastal and marine interests are asked to take all necessary precautions.
Everyone is encouraged to continue monitoring weather conditions and official updates from the official sources:
