An argument between two brothers over their father's old age pension ended in a shooting in Laventille on Friday night.

Police said a 46-year-old man confronted his 44-year-old brother about spending their father's pension cheque, which sparked a heated exchange.

During the argument, the younger man left the house and allegedly promised to return with a gunman to shoot his brother, who had accused him.

A short while later, the younger brother's vehicle—a blue Hyundai Tucson—reportedly returned to the home, and a masked gunman emerged from the back seat and opened fire on the older brother.

The older man ran through a nearby yard but the gunman chased him and shot him in his left forearm.

The attacker then got back into the vehicle, which sped off.

Relatives took the wounded man to hospital, where doctors treated him and listed his condition as stable.

Crime Scene Investigators found two spent .45 calibre shells at the scene.

Police advised other relatives to stay at another location, out of concern that the attacker might return.
