Belmont resident charged for murder outside primary school

A 29-year-old Bel­mont man has been charged with the mur­der of Amoa Howe, which oc­curred out­side the Gloster Lodge Mora­vian Pri­ma­ry School in Bel­mont.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred on Feb­ru­ary 20 and left pupils, par­ents and staff trau­ma­tised. It al­so led to in­creased po­lice pa­trols around the school and oth­er schools in Port-of-Spain.

In a state­ment yes­ter­day, the TTPS re­vealed that Ken­son Hec­tor ap­peared charged with the of­fence be­fore Mas­ter Shabi­ki Caz­abon in the North Court B on May 24.

The Suf­fi­cien­cy Hear­ing has been set for Feb­ru­ary 28, 2025.

Howe, 50, of Gloster Lodge Road, Bel­mont, was close to his home when he was shot and killed near the pri­ma­ry school.

Po­lice said ex­ten­sive in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of a male sus­pect on May 15 by of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force.

Hec­tor was charged by PC Mootie, of HBI Re­gion One, on May 23, fol­low­ing ad­vice re­ceived from Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions Roger Gas­pard on that same date.
