Homicide detectives were last evening trying to determine the identity of a body found with gunshot wounds near the Claxton Bay landfill.
Based on information from an anonymous caller, police went to Kangal Wood Drive, which leads to the Forres Park dump, around 6.30 am, where they found the man’s body. There was a gunshot wound to the right side of the head.
Police said the victim appeared to be of mixed descent, brown in complexion and was dressed in a light-coloured, short plaid pants and a white-patterned long-sleeve T-shirt. According to a report, the chest and neck area of the body was covered with a multi-coloured sheet.
As of yesterday afternoon, the total number of murders stood at 598 murders, with 45 murders for the month of December. Last year, there were a total of 447 murders, of which 30 were committed in December.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are investigating.
