Police said Shawn Joseph, 48, of Petersfield, Felicity, Chaguanas, was just picking up at 7.45 am at Postman Drive Recreation Ground, Enterprise, Chaguanas, when a gunman opened fire on him.
The father of two, who worked as a labourer, was killed next to his car in front of his colleagues.
Guardian Media was told Joseph’s family members were contacted and arrived at the scene, where they were left in shock.
Relatives said Joseph, who was a martial arts expert, was not involved in any kind of criminal activities. They described him as a committed family man and a dedicated Muslim.
Meanwhile, Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed said Joseph’s killing has left corporation workers traumatised.
“Our community was shaken by the brutal murder of Shawn Joseph, a dedicated employee of our corporation, as he was preparing to start his workday. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.
“This senseless act of violence has left us all grieving.
However, this tragic incident is yet another reminder that crime in our nation remains unchecked under this administration. We call on the government to finally take meaningful action to stem this tide of violence before more lives are lost. The time for excuses is over—our nation’s future depends on decisive leadership in the fight against crime,” Mohammed said.
Offices from the Homicide Bureau South are probing the case.
